Evaulation

What genre did you think the name represented? Why?
The radio station “Pulse” represents Now Music for example: Top of the charts music, Hip Hop, House music, Dub step and Electra. The word “Pulse” made me, think of a beat and also something fast paced this is why I made the decision to choose this genre of music for this particular radio station.

Who did you think the audience is? Why?
The target audience is 16 to 21 year olds especially 18 to 20 year olds as they are the ones that go out clubbing and partying the most and this is the type of music DJ’s play at clubs.

How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I wanted my logo to represent my target audience but also the music that is played on the radio station. So I made the logo very unique and stylish but modern at the same time like my target audience. I chose the colours blue and black as they are both unisex colours and them colours will attract both boys and girls. The font I choose for this logo is big and bold but at the same time there is a stylish free flowing font for the word pulse this explains the music that is played on this radio station

Who did you think would be the stations competitors? Why?
The competitors for “Pulse” would be radio stations like Kiss FM, Capital FM and Radio one FM. As these radio stations play the same time of music as pulse also they probably have the same if not similar target audience. My radio station has an edge on these stations from our wide range of music that is played so the radio station will not become repetitive like Kiss FM, Capital FM and Radio one FM.

What look did you want to create? Why?
For the radio station “Pulse” I wanted to create a stylish, free flowing, trendy and modern logo that would give an identity to my radio station “Pulse”. I wanted my logo to appeal to my target audience which is 16 to 21 year olds so I made it look very modern with they way the letters overlap each other. Also I made the colours that I used unisex so it attracts both genders. I chose a font that is really stylish and free flowing I done this, as that is what my target audience represent.

How did you create that look? Use technical terminology
I created my logo on Photoshop. Firstly, I used the text tool to draw a box so I could write the word OW after this I changed the letter O to blue and the letter W to black using the paint bucket tool.
Once that was completed I highlighted the text and used the paragraph panel tool to edit the word for example making the letters closer together.
After I had finished editing the text I drew a rectangle using the rectangle tool after this I made the rectangle white using the pain bucket tool so it looks like I’ve cut the middle section out of the O.
I drew another slightly bigger rectangle using the rectangle tool and made it white with the paint bucket tool after this I covered the end of the W so it looks like it’s been cut out.
Then I used the text tool to write the exclamation mark after this I turned the colour to pink using the paint bucket tool
Finally I used the text tool and drew a little box and wrote the word "Pulse" and edited the text using the paragraph panel tool to make it fit perfectly inside the gap of the O.

What did you think was the most successful part of your logo?
I think the most successful part of my design is the way it looks it is very modern, stylish and professional I think it looks like something a professional designer would make. I incorporated the exclamation mark into the W as I though this would give it a modern and cool look. I chose the colours Red, Blue and Pink because these colours are unisex colours so they will attract both males and females. I wanted the to make my design so it had the company OW! Incorporated inside as well as the actual name of the radio station and this would show that these stations are a family.

Did your audience think that it suited the genre?
When I asked my audience for feedback they all couldn’t really tell what type of music is played on each radio station this is why I had to go back and re think the design of my logo keeping them so you can tell that they are from the same family but giving them a bit more of a unique edge. I done this by change the colours that I used and the font type I used for the name of the radio station.

What skills have you developed most when creating this logo?
I think the skill that I have most developed through this process of creating my logos is my Photoshop skills as I have used Photoshop to make all my logos and now I feel very confident when using Photoshop and this will benefit me in the future with make stuff on Photoshop.

What could you still do to your work to make it even better?
To better my work I need to make my logos say what type of music they play on the station as I think I have not done this effectively enough and you cannot really tell.

Grid Font

Me and Mic decided to go with style of font for our logo as it appeals to our target audience which is 18-30 year old's as its graffiti and youths like this style of writing and it has relevance to them. The colours are unisex for example the blues, purples, reds and pinks so this appeals to both men and women.

Move Forward
Is the song i choose for the Idea 1 ident as it is very upbeat and jolly this goes with the idents theme also this will keep the viewers enticed and interested while watching this ident. the music also attracts the target audience we are targeting which is 18 to 30 year olds.

Ambler
is the song i choose for the Idea 3 ident as it has a happy feel to the song also the song is very upbeat this keeps the viewers interested. Ambler also will attract our target audience through the way it sounds and also the pace and tempo goes with the ident.

Fun In A Bottle
is the song i choose for the idea 2 ident as it has a upbeat tempo but the pace is a bit slower this has a good effect and goes well with the ident as it is someone taking a free-kick in football. also the song isn't as jolly as the other to this is to show a bit more tension as this is what people feel like when taking a free-kick.

UPDATED DRAFT 1

Idents are small advertisements that market a channel. They have both opportunities and limitations. Some opportunities Idents have are that they create a corporate identity and a tone for your channel. Also it easily displays text-based information about your channel. Idents allows you to brand your channel, so it appeals to your target audience. Another opportunity is that it encourages brand loyalty to your channel. Some limitations that must be through of when designing Idents are getting the right amount and balance of typography in the Ident. Also you need to make sure the resolution is right for what displays you want your Ident shown of for example a TVs resolution won’t be the same as on the IPAD. Another limitation is that you have to make sure you use colours that will attract the eyes of the viewers and your target audience. The aspect ratio has to be correct so the picture fits in all the screens and is not half cut out.

UKTV GOLD

NEW:
There is a very good balance between the visual and verbal information in this ident as it shows the programmes logo right in the middle of the screen and it tells you what’s next on TV and what’s about to play. The composition well balanced as well with the visuals that are portrayed with the funny images and the music which is golly and upbeat this links with the target audience. This ident is not set in the real world. The ident has a really fast tempo this goes with the theme they are putting across trying to link with the target audience which is “funny people”. The interaction with the views is formal but very conversational because of the way the man is speaking it’s very clear what he is saying and his voice is relaxed and clam. This channel is more about the entertainment factor with the funny images and the golly music rather than the information that is in the ident.

 OLD:
This ident has no verbal information in fact it has not communication at all, also there is very low verbal information. The composition is not very clear at all you cannot tell what the ident is about but the logo comes in the middle of the screen at the end. The music and sounds help you get a better understanding of what’s going on. The tempo is slow this makes the ident boring to watch as there is not much going on. The ident is set in real life so this relates to everyday people and to the target audience. There is no speech at all in this ident so there is no interaction with the viewers. This ident is more entertainment based rather than information

New:
There is well balanced the visual information with the logo on display, also well balanced verbal information as they tell you what’s next on. Well balanced composition all the visuals have a purpose to entice the target audience also the music is golly and upbeat this is also to attract the target audience. The ident is set in the real world. The tempo is mostly fast with lots going on to keep the viewer interested in what’s going on. Entertainment and information is pretty much equal so you get the best of both worlds. The interaction with the viewers is formal but at the same time it is conversational.

Old:
There is no visual information but there is verbal information as they tell you what’s on next and what’s about to play. Not really clear balanced composition visuals are a bit confusing as to what’s happening but the music is upbeat and jolly this links to the target audience they trying to entice to their channel. The ident is set in the real world. Tempo is really slow quite boring to view not very interesting. Entertainment is there but not really any information about the channel. The interaction with the viewers is formal but conversational

Dave

Old:
These idents are low in information with no verbal information but there is a little bit of visual information with the logo and slogan that is shown. The composition is not really balanced it has no verbal information only visual it shows still images. The tempo for the ident is very slow and boring no excitement to the ident at all. This doesn’t give the audience something to be enticed by and doesn’t tell what kinds of programs the channel shows this ident is set in a real life environment and looks like it’s in the present tense. The ident is more entertainment led rather than information as there is hardly any if not none. There is not interaction with the viewers at all there is only an image of the channels logo this doesn't really grab the views attention.

New:
This ident is very well balanced with the visual information on show a lot and also there is quite a bit of verbal information as they tell you what's on next and a bit about the program. The composition is very well balanced as well with the visuals on show also the music and sound's used are there to entice their target audience. Set in a fiction world. Tempo is fast a lot going on this is to keep the viewer's interested and so they don't get bored. I would say this ident is more entertainment based rather than information led this is done probably to entice their target audience. Interaction with viewers is formal but conversational

UPDATED DRAFT 2

The purposes of idents are they tell you the channels identity. For example, the genre of programs they show and who their targeting the channel to. Another purpose of an ident is that they brand and market the channel giving a clear vibe of the channel.

  BBC HIPPO’S

Density of information:

There is a high level of verbal information as they voice over tells you what’s about to be shown and what’s next. However there is a very low level of visual information there is only the channels logo at the end of the ident.

Composition:

This ident is well balanced with the visual information and the sound. The logo is right in the middle this is affective as that’s what the channel wants the viewers to see first as it is the most important thing. Also with the movement of the hippos going round in a circle this could mean that the channel gets all the newest information around the world first. The music is upbeat and has a happy feeling about it but it isn’t too quick this keeps the viewer enticed to the ident.

Tempo:

The tempo is medium paced more slow than fast. This is done to represent the hippos, as they are also medium to slow paced animals this gives an effect that the channel is relaxed and clam. The pace of the music also sets the pace. This makes the viewer feel calm and relaxed when watching this ident through the tempo.

Space of time:

This ident is set in the real world. Although this ident is set in the real world it has a different perspective which is under water so we are seeing it through what the hippo sees. This sends a message to the viewers that the BBC offers programming from a different perspective

Entertainment vs. Information

In this ident there is much more information than entertainment as they tell you what’s on next, what’s playing at the time, and the TV’s logo. With the entertainment there’s nothing but hippos swimming around and that is not entertaining. This tells the viewers that the BBC is very factual and information based TV channel.

Interaction with the viewers

The interaction with the viewers is very formal in the language used but at the same time it is very conversational. They do this so the viewers understand the type of language that is used and it is very conversational so the viewers feel like there just having a conversation

E4 LOADING BAY

The density of information

This ident is has very low information with the visual information as really the only thing it shows you is the programs logo which isn't much information at all. The verbal information is very low as well as it doesn't tell you what's on next and what's about to show, the verbal is only for entertainment as the voice over cracks a joke.

Tempo

This idents tempo changes as the ident goes on, in the first phase of the ident when the bay is loading the tempo is pretty slow. Then in the second phase of the ident when they have loaded it the tempo picks up and it makes it more entertaining. This shows the viewers that channel is relaxed but also entertaining.

Entertainment vs. Information

This ident is more entertainment based as to information based because there is no information at all in this ident only the channels logo, and there is lots of entrainment with the loading bays movement sequence and the verbal entrainment.

Interaction with the views

This ident uses the verbal communication and the movement sequence to entertain the people viewing. This ident is trying to create a funny and warming feeling to their channel. This attracts lots of different viewers so that means they get more people watching their channel.

Space and time

Composition

This ident is not well balanced at all as there is no verbal information through the whole ident and the only visual information is the TVs channels logo. This could hinder them with viewers and this doesn’t attract a lot of people to watch their channel.

ITV No Guts No Glory

Density of information

Visual information is low but the as it doesn't show you anything about the channel not even the logo. Verbal information is high as it has a little convocation with you and tells you what's on next and what's about to be shown

Interaction with the viewers

The lady that talks uses formal language but is very conversational. She makes indirect conversation with the viewers this makes their viewers feel more confinable while watching this channel

Tempo

Fast tempo this is represented of the boxer as boxing is a very fast sports also he is skipping this is also done at a high speed. However the voice that is speaking is very mellow and done at a clam pace

Composition

I think that they have got the right balance in this ident as it is more entrainment based so they has less visual information and have used the visuals to entertain the viewers and used the verbal to inform the viewers

Entertainment vs. Information

This ident is way more entrainment based rather than information based as this is the vibe that the channel is trying to portray. This is what type of people what to watch this channel.

Interaction with the viewers

The language used is formal but the lady’s voice is conversational and it is also slow paced and clam this makes the viewers feel confinable and at ease when watching this channel
